How to Get Rid of Smoke Smell from Skylanders

Trying to get rid of smoke smell off anything is a pain, and Skylanders are no different.
Luckily, after testing tons of methods, I’ve found a few that actually work pretty well.
Below, I’ll walk through each one, explain how it works, and give it a rating out of 10 so you can see what’s worth your time.

Cleaning Spray / Isopropyl Alcohol / Disinfectant Wipes (3/10)

Normal cleaning spray or disinfectant wipes are by far the easiest method since they’re readily available.
Just spray some onto a cloth and thoroughly wipe down the figure, making sure to hit all the nooks and crannies.

While this can help remove some of the surface grime (and maybe a bit of the smell), it’s not super effective at fully getting rid of smoke odour.
It’s a good starting point, but you’ll need to pair it with something stronger if you want lasting results.

Dryer Sheets (5/10)

Dryer sheets are a decent way to minimize smoke smell, especially for smaller figures.
Place your Skylanders in an airtight container or large ziplock bag, and sandwich them between a few dryer sheets.
Let them sit anywhere from a few days to a couple of weeks, depending on how strong the smell is.

This method works alright when the smoke smell isn’t too bad — but the main downside is that it mostly masks the odour instead of actually removing it.

Charcoal Bags (8/10)

Charcoal bags are easily one of the best methods I’ve used.
Like with the dryer sheets, place your Skylanders in an airtight bin or big ziplock bag, and surround the figures with the charcoal bags.
Depending on how strong the smoke smell is, leave them in for a few days to a few weeks.

Once you’re done, let the Skylanders air out in a well-ventilated space — preferably outside or near a fan.

The only downside to this method is the cost. Charcoal bags aren’t super cheap (around $25 CAD for 8), but they last for years and are multipurpose, making them well worth it.

Combining Methods (10/10)

If you want the best possible results, here’s what I’d recommend:

  1. Wipe the Skylanders down with disinfectant wipes or isopropyl alcohol.
  2. Place them in a sealed bin with charcoal bags for a few days.
  3. Air them out.
  4. Repeat the process if needed.

This combo almost always gets rid of the smoke smell completely. It takes a bit of time, but it's worked time and time again for me.
